LAW IS MORE THAN A SOCIAL CONTRACT AMONG PEOPLE.

LAW IS MORE THAN A SET OF MORAL GUIDELINES.
LAW IS DIVINE.

SCRIPTURE REVEALS THAT LAW ORIGINATED IN GOD'S HEART AND IN GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY.

THE DIVINE LAW EXPLORES THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES BETWEEN GOD'S LAW AND MAN'S LAW.

Covenant

A covenant is a contract. This is an agreement between at least two people in which there is an offer, an acceptance, in which both sides agree to exchange something or some service of value.

  • The Bible notes many covenants between God and mankind.
  • The Adamic Covenant marks an agreement between God and Adam wherein Adam would not experience death if he did not eat of the tree of knowledge.
  • The Abrahamic Covenant marks an agreement between God and Abraham, wherein God blessed Abraham with a rich ancestry if he
  • The Mosaic Covenant identifies commandments by which God agreed to dwell amongst His people.
  • The New Covenant by which followers of Jesus Christ acknowledge and share in His death, resurrection, and ascension in exchange for eternal salvation.

de minimis non curat lex

"The law does not concern itself with such trifles."

It may be hard to believe, but there are instances in which people break the law and the breach is so minor that neither law enforcement nor the courts find it important to punish the law breaker. Scripture provides examples in which there are some offenses which God deems to be minor.

  • Jesus disregarded the fact that his servants picked grain on the Sabbath.
  • Jesus disregarded the sin of the woman caught in adultery and simply told her to go and sin no more.
  • Jesus ignored the fact that Martha served Him and recognized Mary for having selected the better choice to listen to Him.

Adverse possession

This doctrine allows a squatter to take ownership of another person's property if the owner does not enforce ownership.

Adverse possession appears to exist in the spiritual realm as well.

In Matthew 12:43, Jesus warns us that we must be filled with the Holy Spirit or risk being possessed by evil spirits. Our bodies and our souls are the most important properties that we own and we must be diligent against any adverse possession.
